So Many Sweet Dreams (2012)
This work is a collection of 6 plunderphonic miniatures. The term "plunderphonic", coined by composer John Oswald in 1985, refers to music that is created by taking one or more pre-existing musical recordings and altering them to form a new composition. For my source material, I drew from the discography of the noise/indie rock duo The Sparta Philharmonic. I have been close friends with the group for many years, and their wonderful music has had a profound influence on my compositions. By sampling, abstracting, and re-imagining scattered moments from the band's cds, this collection proudly celebrates its musical origins, while also allowing me to explore and present my own commentary on music that is very near to my heart.
